Accompanying the growth of the company by migrating to the cloud

The geographical area in which Novamex carries out its distribution and marketing activity of beverages and food is the United States. By managing a variety of brands from Mexico, its main buyer is the Mexican and, secondarily, Latino population, both first generation and later generations. The growth of these populations and their increasingly growing insertion into the North American economy acted as drivers of Novamex's growth.

To accompany this growth, Novamex chose to adopt G Suite, with an implementation led by Xertica. As José Hernández, IT Manager at Novamex, says: “We needed to update our email server. We saw the option of updating it internally or migrating to G Suite. We used to use Microsoft Exchange with our internal server; but we had to renew and update the technology.”

Novamex has a network of more than 50,000 distribution points from coast to coast of the United States. Therefore, having a communication tool that facilitates coordination between areas, headquarters, distribution points and with suppliers was essential. “We have Hangouts and Meet, which help us a lot in communication. Likewise, we are giving a boost to the use of Drive; It is a good technology and it will help us reduce the number of servers we have here,” highlights José Hernández.

Flexibility and centralized administration

At Novamex, concerns regarding infrastructure and systems are over: they no longer need the on-premise use of servers. The flexibility of the Google cloud and, therefore, of G Suite, was adjusted to the company's needs since, by increasing the number of collaborators in the company, it was only necessary to activate new licenses. This exonerates the IT area from having to expand capabilities in its data center. In this regard, Hernández notes: “During the last two years, the company grew a lot in terms of users. In this context, it has been an advantage to have G Suite. Otherwise, we would have had to continue expanding disk space. I couldn't have contemplated that in Exchange. With G Suite, I don't have to worry about that server that we would have had to scale up and deploy internally.”

Having unlimited accounts in terms of space is also a great advantage. In addition to this, in terms of administration, from a single console you can manage all the domains that Novamex has (eight domains in total). “From the same console I manage everything in one go,” concludes Hernández.
